Prints of Russell Lee's portraits of America pulled from the Briscoe Center's Russell Lee Photograph Collection. More than 27,000 photo negatives, 3,600 prints and 700 slides representing the entirety of Lee's career. Lee joined The University of Texas College of Fine Arts faculty in 1965 as its first photography instructor and taught until 1973, donating his archive in 1983. Work documents poverty of rural Americans, Japanese American labor camps, working conditions of coal miners, conditions in state-run mental facilities, and joy and resilience of community life. On view in the Weatherby Gallery.
