Ann Arbor historian Susan Wineberg tells how a chance finding of a cache of cooking pamphlets led to the discovery of a Black cook's personal scrapbook of recipes from the 1930s-1950s, most of them hand-written. She donated it to the University library, now published by the University of Michigan Press as The Ella E. Hall Recipe Book, with foreword by Jessica Kenyatta Walker. Talk covers her discovery, donation, and the book as a window into the lives of Black cooks of the time. Wednesday noon lecture. Admission free, donations appreciated.
